1981 Harley-Davidson FXB Sturgis First Year Selling a first year 1981 Harley-Davidson FXB Sturgis, one of only 3,543 built in its initial launch year of 1981 (the same year Harley-Davidson was purchased back from the AMF company). This bike was bought used in 1983 from the Harley-Davidson dealership in Santa Ana, CA (see receipt) by the owner who recently passed away. We are helping his widow find a new home for their beloved motorcycle. The bike had sat for several years after the owner became sick … it only took a good cleaning of the carburetor, new engine oil and transmission oil, a new battery, cleaned the spark plugs and the bike fired right up! The engine runs beautifully and the bike rides fine, no clutch slippage and pulls hard in all 4 speeds with 13,537 original miles. There is a leak coming from the transmission, no engine oil leaks. The tachometer does move but not very accurately, the needle sits at around 3,000 rpm when not started. There is some surface corrosion/rust on the bike, we tried to capture everything in the photos. We would be happy to send more photos upon request. All of the lights work fine on the bike and she charges fine too. This first year Sturgis has become highly collectable and is often a sought after model.
We have included a cold start video and walk-around. Please keep in mind this bike is over 40 years old with normal signs of wear! She has a clean FL Title – the title was recently transferred in to the widow’s name in order to sell the bike. We sincerely appreciate your time to check out this bike!
